The American College of Neuropsychiatrists (ACN/ACONP) is proud to congratulate our newly elected President, Anthony Emmer, D.O., FACN. Dr. Emmer (Tony) is part of a successful neurology practice in Southfield, Michigan specializing in general neurology. He is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

Dr. Emmer has been actively involved in the neurology profession throughout his career. Dr. Emmer has lectured extensively both locally and nationally on a variety of neurology topics. He serves as voluntary faculty with Wayne State University, School of Medicine, Neurology Department as Clinical Assistant Professor. Dr. Emmer also teaches 3rd year medical students from Michigan State University, College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Emmer has been recognized a number of times in Hour Detroit Magazine as a Top Doc in Michigan. He has served on the A.C.N. Board of Governors for the past seven years. Dr. Emmer also served for eight years on the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. Due to his extensive service to the profession and the ACN, he was inducted into fellowship in the ACN in 2007.

Dr. Emmer and his wife, Julie have been active participants in College and Examining Board events for many years He continues to serve as an examiner for Part II neurology exams. Julie is well known by many of our members through her years of service to the Examining Board, serving as a proctor and administrator for Part I of the neurology exam as well as providing similar coordination support with numerous Part II exams.

A close friend and colleague, Dr. Robert Piccinini stated, “While in medical school Tony was viewed as an unofficial leader of the class. He is a very humble and kind and is consider by many as a great friend.”

The Emmer’s are devoted parents to son Jordan, daughter Eriel, and son Noah.

Dr. Emmer enjoys spending time with family, exploring a city’s local restaurants and sampling craft beer. He also participates in competitive cycling and skateboarding in his leisure time.
